Our Philosophy
At Guardian, we believe that the success of an ignition interlock program lies in its execution, not in the equipment used. Just as the best golf equipment available provides no assurance that one can play like Tiger Woods, the best interlock technology provides no assurance of a successful program.
For this reason, the Guardian Responsible Driver Program combines superior technology with a disciplined program of automated monitoring, reporting and control. We have full confidence in the abilities of our equipment. We simply want to gain full confidence in the success of our participants. Therefore, we concentrate on a rigorous program of education, monitoring, and reporting.
Our Education Efforts
The vast majority of interlock participants are repeat offenders. Typically, these are people who fail to recognize that they have a problem. The Responsible Driver Program, along with other programs such as DUI schools and assessment programs, seeks to force offenders to confront their problems.
Our educational efforts include the following:
Training Video
Our detailed training video takes the participant through every aspect of the device and its features. The video informs the participant of the following:
- How each breath test is analyzed and recorded.
- How the device detects and records attempted acts of circumvention.
- Consequences involved with acts of circumvention.
Orientation
After watching the training video, the participant must undergo an orientation and demonstration process, where he or she will learn how the device is installed.
Demonstration
Upon completion of installation, the participant must demonstrate his or her ability to operate the device. The service technician must be satisfied that the participant possesses the knowledge and skills required for routine operation.
