As House Bill 126 comes into discussions in New Mexico, many people argue over the potential required installation of ignition interlock devices on all new cars sold in New Mexico by Jan. 1, 2008, regardless of the purchaser's driving record.

Ignition Interlock Suppliers Gird for New Law's Impact
On April 7, Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico signed into law a measure that makes ignition interlock devices mandatory for anyone convicted of driving under the influence (DUI). The law, which is the first of its kind in the nation because it includes first-time offenders, goes into effect in June.
