The Arizona DMV offers restricted licenses to eligible applicants who need to drive to work while their regular licenses are suspended or revoked.

Steps to Obtaining a Restricted Driver’s License During Your Suspension:

  • Provide proof of completion for any mandatory alcohol treatment.
  • Provide proof of SR22 insurance.
  • Paid all applicable fees.
  • Make an appointment to have your ignition interlock installed by calling toll-free 800-499-0994.
  • Have your interlock installed. Guardian will give you a certificate confirming the installation.
  • Bring the certificate to the MVD to receive your restricted license.
  • If you are eligible, a special restricted permit will automatically be mailed to you.

Steps to Reinstate Your Driver’s License After Suspension:

After serving your suspension period completely, you may reinstate your driving privileges and apply for a new Arizona driver’s license.

  • Satisfy any court requirements and fines, if applicable.
  • Wait until your suspension period has ended.
  • Make an appointment to have your ignition interlock installed by calling toll-free 800-499-0994.
  • Have your interlock installed. Guardian will give you a certificate confirming the installation.
  • Visit your local Arizona DMV office with the certificate and proof of SR-22 insurance.
  • If you have submitted the necessary documents and have a digital photo on file with the Arizona MVD, you can pay your reinstatement fee in person at an Arizona DMV office, online, or by mail. If you pay for your reinstatement online, your driver’s license will be mailed to you within 5 business days.

You can reinstate driving privileges after a license revocation by following these steps.

  • Serve your revocation time. After your revocation period has ended, your driving privilege will remain revoked until an investigation of your driving record is completed, if applicable, and a new license is issued.
  • Complete and submit a Revocation Investigation Packet.
  • Comply with mandatory alcohol treatment programs (if required) and submit proof of completion to the MVD.
  • Provide proof of SR22 insurance.
  • Bring proof and notice to an MVD office. Fill out an application, pay the reinstatement fee, and application fee.
  • Make an appointment to have your ignition interlock installed by calling toll-free 800-499-0994.
  • Have your interlock installed. Guardian will give you a certificate confirming the installation.
  • Bring the certificate to the MVD to receive your restricted license.
  • Provide the MVD with your permission to apply notice, which you will receive once the ADOT completes its investigation.
